What it trains
Rate of force development — how quickly you can express the strength you already have. The lifts are almost entirely alactic: maximal efforts lasting under three seconds, with full recovery between. You are training the nervous system to fire a large amount of muscle in a very short window, and to do it in a coordinated sequence rather than all at once.
Physically it loads the posterior chain and quadriceps hard through the pull, the trapezius and upper back through the second pull and the receiving position, and the shoulders and thoracic spine through the overhead catch. Ankle, hip, thoracic and shoulder range are trained as a requirement of the movement rather than as separate work.
