It’s not fitness. It’s life.

Not a gym. A strength and conditioning studio in Dubai, where every member trains on a written programme and every class is coached in person.

What this actually is

Most people do not need more motivation. They need a programme, and somebody who notices when they stop turning up.

Every member here trains on a twelve-week block, written by the coaching team and revised at the eight-week review. The weights are decided before you arrive. Groups are capped between twelve and twenty-four so a coach can watch you lift rather than count you in. That is the whole offer. There is no app telling you what to do, no leaderboard, and nobody shouting. What there is instead is a room that expects you on Tuesday, a coach who remembers what you lifted last week, and a number on a page that is higher in March than it was in January. Most people who stay do so because that turns out to be enough.

Nobody here trains alone

Every session is coached in the room, at the weight you can actually hold position under. Groups cap at sixteen on the barbell floor and twelve in the studio, which is the number at which a coach can still see everybody.

What we run

Every class coached in person by someone who wrote the session — not a circuit you follow off a screen.

01

Strength

Strength is the backbone of everything else on the timetable. It is barbell work — squat, hinge, press, pull — run as a twelve-week block with the weights written down and the progression planned before you walk in. You are not guessing what to lift. The coach hands you a number, you work to it, and it goes up in a way you can see on paper eight weeks later.

02

Olympic Lifting

The two competition lifts — the snatch, and the clean and jerk — broken into positions and drilled until they hold under load. This is coaching rather than instruction. Twelve people maximum, seventy-five minutes, and a great deal of patience for the empty bar, because the empty bar is where the technique is actually built. Marco runs this block the way he was taught it in São Paulo: positions before speed, speed before load.

03

Conditioning

Engine work. Sled pushes, echo bike intervals, loaded carries, rowing and ski erg, structured around your own paces rather than the fastest person in the room. The paces come from a test we run in your first fortnight and repeat every twelve weeks, so the session is calibrated to you. That is what stops conditioning becoming a race, which is the usual failure of a group class — the fit people get fitter and everyone else gets tired.

04

HIIT 45

Short intervals, minimal rest, mixed modality. Forty-five minutes that are genuinely hard, run to a structure rather than assembled at random on the day. This is the busiest class on the timetable and the one most likely to have a waitlist by Tuesday. It is also the one we are most careful about admitting people to. High-intensity work is a productive stimulus when the base underneath it exists and a good way to accumulate fatigue when it does not, so we ask for six weeks of Conditioning before your first one.

05

Boxing

Stance, footwork and combinations on the bag, built into rounds that double as conditioning. No sparring and no contact — this is skill work that happens to leave you tired. Marco came to coaching through boxing before he came to it through weightlifting, and it shows in how the class is run: a great deal of attention on the feet, very little on how hard you are hitting.

06

Pilates

Controlled, spring-loaded strength through full range, on twelve reformers at the Marina studio. Yasmin certified in reformer work during a long year out with a shoulder, and runs the class the way a strength coach would: positions held with intent, tempo prescribed, and the spring setting treated as a load to be progressed rather than a comfort setting. It is not a soft class. It is a precise one, which is a different thing.

Mobility

Loaded stretching, joint work and positional drills aimed at the ranges most people lose sitting down all week. Half an hour, low intensity. This is maintenance, not rehabilitation. The distinction matters and we are careful about it: this class exists to keep healthy joints moving well, not to treat a problem. If something hurts in a way that is new, sharp or getting worse, the right person to see is a physiotherapist or a doctor, and the coaches here will tell you that rather than improvise.

Five things worth knowing

  1. The barbell floor
  2. The engine work
  3. Recovery
  4. Coaching
  5. Membership

The barbell floor

The barbell floor

Squat, hinge, press, pull, run as a twelve-week block with the weights written down before you arrive. You are not choosing what to lift or guessing the jump. The coach hands you a number, you work to it, and it goes up in a way you can see on paper.

See Strength

The engine work

The engine work

Intervals with a stated purpose rather than a scoreboard. Some sessions build the aerobic base you will spend the year drawing on, others are genuinely hard for eight minutes and then stop. Both are on the timetable on purpose, and the coach will tell you which one today is.

See Conditioning

Recovery

Mobility, programmed

Mobility is a class in its own right, not five minutes bolted onto the end of a lifting session. It sits in the evening at Al Quoz specifically so it can follow the 18:30 Strength class, and every twelve-week block contains a deload week where volume drops by forty per cent.

See Mobility

Coaching

Sixteen, not sixty

Groups cap at sixteen on the barbell floor and twelve in the studio. That is the number at which a coach can still correct a position rather than count reps. Scaling happens in the room, quietly, at the weight and range you can hold — not by giving you a different workout.

“I had trained for years without getting stronger. The difference here is that somebody wrote it down and then made me stick to it.”

“I came back after a knee reconstruction expecting to be sidelined. I was on the floor with everybody else in the first week, at a weight that made sense.”

How the training works

Strength, conditioning and mobility are not three separate hobbies. They are three inputs into the same system, and the ratio between them is what decides whether a year of training leaves you stronger or merely tired. We publish how we structure that ratio, because a prospective member deserves to read it before paying for it rather than after. It covers what progression looks like at three, six and twelve months, how recovery is programmed rather than hoped for, and where our remit stops and a physiotherapist takes over.
